Spring has (finally) sprung!

I know some of you winter sports enthusiasts were wishing for a long winter; well... you got it, and now it's time to enjoy what comes with the warm weather: budding gardens, green grass, clear walking paths, spending lots of time outdoors, and several other great things that come with spring -- but most importantly, saying goodbye to the snow!

I have seen lots of bikes on the road and the park packed with families. Since many more people are outside these days, it is a good time for a reminder to slow down while cruising around the neighborhood and to be on the lookout for ball hockey games in progress on the roads.

Your Lansdowne Community League Casino Event is happening in just two weeks!

Tuesday & Wednesday, April 25th and 26th, 2023

As expected, the Lansdowne Community has embraced this important Casino Event, and we have had a great response from our neighbours! Thank you to everyone who has stepped up!

As we are within two weeks of our event, we have unfortunately received a few cancellations from volunteers that are no longer able to commit.  We are in immediate need of the following position:

Evening CHIP RUNNER - Tuesday, April 25th  - 6:15PM - 3:15AM

Michener Park & West 240 Update
April 11, 2023

Your Board recognizes that the Michener Park & West 240 developments are top of mind with all Lansdowne residents. While we strongly encourage our neighbours to personally attend all information sessions to garner as much firsthand information as possible and to voice their opinions directly and via online survey, we will endeavor to have a Board representative at each future meeting with our Community’s interests at heart and to bring key takeaways back for those who were unable to attend.

Your Lansdowne Community League Board hosted a special guest at our monthly Board Meeting on April 11th, 2023 - University of Alberta Properties Trust (UAPT) Manager of Development and Construction Keaton Seaby.

Keaton was more than happy to attend our meeting and reiterated how UAPT values strong engagement and dialogue with all stakeholders.

We were given permission to share Keaton's brief PowerPoint presentation with you (see link below) and are happy to recap some highlights of our discussion:

Michener Park
-grading of site is half complete
-expected to complete full site grading in mid to late June 2023
-underground servicing & road construction expected to commence in July 2023 with completion in fall 2023
-expected start to building spring 2024
-expected residence possession 2025/2026
-Slide 9 depicts the main access point into Michener Park off of 122nd Street, requiring a set of traffic lights. This will lead into Michener's "main street" of 48th Avenue

West 240
-two of four open houses complete and four design concepts narrowed to three design concepts
-third and *very important* open house being held May 4, 2023, 5:00-8:00 p.m., at the Savage Center
-the third open house will result in the three design concepts being narrowed down to
the final one design concept
-the fourth open house will be held in September to present the final design concept
-the Master Plan will follow fall 2023
-City of Edmonton processes will take minimum 18 months following this, with City open houses being held along the way
-earliest possible breaking ground in 2025

On April 20, Lansdowne Elementary is hosting a Silent Auction in conjunction with the Spring Family Dance to raise funds for extra-curricular learning. Your contribution to our event would go a long way to making our year successful.

We would greatly appreciate a donation that speaks to your business and its services or happily accept a donation from a Lansdowne Family. In return for your generosity, we will display your company logo or family’s name above the table and mention your company’s contribution in our School Newsletter.

Upcoming Events!

Spring is here and the sun is shining! Let's get the Lansdowne playground, tennis courts, and soccer fields in tip-top shape to start our warm seasons!

Come join us on Saturday, May 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. to lend a hand cleaning up our outdoor facilities.

Priorities include litter collection throughout all grounds, sweeping/raking sand/wood chips throughout the park, along with lifting some tennis court tiles to remove growth if time permits. Kids encouraged!

Some tools will be available, but if you have an outdoor broom or rake, please bring it along. Rubber gloves and bags will be provided for litter collection.
