Lansdowne, you all showed up this month!

I am continuously impressed with the generosity of this amazing community. Here are a few highlights of the last month:

• Thank you for sending your good wishes to our Mail Carrier Unique on the last week of her Lansdowne route!

• Thank you to many Lansdowne businesses who showed their support for Lansdowne School by donating items for the Silent Auction!

• Thank you to the 40 Volunteers who worked our important Casino on April 25/26th! You’re awesome!

• HUGE shout out to Anne Menard for coordinating another successful casino! And for putting on a wonderful Appreciation Event at the Hall.

• Thank you for lending a helping hand at our Spring Clean-Up last weekend! So many community members showed up with a smile, ready to get to work!

I love living in Lansdowne, and it is because of the people! With our approaching Spring BBQ and Annual General Meeting, please start considering how you can contribute. Getting involved is a fun and social way to get to know your neighbours and helps our lovely Lansdowne thrive. We have a few vacancies on the LCL Board to fill, and we are always looking for volunteers for our events. See you on the 28th!

Spring 2023 Yard Waste Collection

Monday, May 15 and Monday, June 19

Set out yard waste by 7am on your seasonal yard waste collection days.

• Use see-through plastic or double-ply paper bags. Plastic bags that are not see-through, like black garbage bags, will not be collected.

• Bundle twigs and branches. Please tie materials over 0.3 metre (1 ft) in bundles and set them beside your yard waste bags. Bundles must be less than 1.2 metres (4 ft) and 0.75 metre (2.5 ft) in diameter.

• There is no bag limit. You can set out as many bags or bundles as you need.

• Keep your collector safe. All yard waste is picked up by hand. Please make sure your bags are in good condition, less than 20 kg (44 lb), and packaged in a way that’s safe and easy for your collector to lift. Make sure your paper bags are rolled closed at the top and your see-through plastic bags are tied closed. This prevents spills.

• Yard waste in carts will only be collected on your regular collection day.

• Note: Tree stumps and trunks are not accepted for curbside collection but can be dropped off at an Eco Station for free.

Root for Trees is the City of Edmonton's volunteer tree-planting initiative! You can take part in helping expand our urban forest when you volunteer.

Root for Trees increases tree and shrub planting throughout the city with the help of corporations, local businesses, community groups, teams, families and individual residents. The Root for Trees program helps to expand Edmonton’s urban forest by planting trees for Edmontonians by Edmontonians.

Root for Trees plays a critical role in the landscape management process of naturalization. Over time, these grassy areas are planted with trees, shrubs and wildflowers and brought back to a more natural state, resulting in economic, environmental and quality of life benefits.

289,326 trees and shrubs planted by volunteers since 2013!
By volunteering with Root for Trees, you help:

• Expand our urban forest through tree, shrub and wildflower plantings

• Care for naturalized areas by reducing weed competition

• Protect local habitat and biodiversity

• Contribute to your local community

City of Edmonton Public Spaces Bylaw Review

Share your thoughts on the Public Spaces Bylaws Review

The City of Edmonton is conducting a review of the City’s three primary public spaces bylaws - Public Places Bylaw, Parkland Bylaw and Conduct of Transit Passengers Bylaw - to replace them with a comprehensive, new bylaw that allows for clear, effective and equitable application of bylaw and enforcement measures.

You’re invited to learn more about the Public Spaces Bylaw review and share your feedback. We want to know what is most important to consider around how the City regulates how and when people can do certain activities and behaviours in public spaces in Edmonton.

Only two more weeks left to reach their goal of 1,440 dozen. That means over 17,000 fresh bagels will be flown overnight by Cargojet on June 14 from Montreal! This would be setting a record for a second time!

All profits will go towards supporting local teen leadership programming.

GeriActors & Friends Theatre invites you to join us for our 2023 performance season, where we will be debuting two plays: ‘Be Careful’ and ‘Now That We’re Older’!

‘Be Careful’ is about a couple who have just experienced a major setback in their retirement and are unsure of next steps. Follow them, their loveable dog Toby, and a dynamic cast of characters as they explore the falls and fears that come with aging, and figure out how to support each other through it all.

‘Now That We’re Older’, though still in development, is about the things we leave behind and (sometimes) forget, and how aging has freed us to become our truest selves.

After each performance, audiences are invited to stay for light refreshments and a talk-back with the cast. Tickets are pay-what-you-can and are available online through this link. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door.

Thursday June 1, 2023 1:00-2:30 pm; Friday June 2, 2023 7:00-8:30 pm; and Saturday June 3, 2023 1:00-2:30 pm. Performances will be held at the Foote Auditorium at St. Paul's United Church 11526 76 Avenue NW, Edmonton
